Hi, I’m Ken!
I’m an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where I teach digital journalism and other upper-level media courses. My research falls into two interrelated categories, each of which I explore primarily through historical research: the relationship between journalism and community, particularly in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions; and intracity newspaper competition. My Ph.D. dissertation, a history of the more than 100 years of competition between the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News that I completed under the guidance of Michael Sweeney at Ohio University’s E. W. Scripps School of Journalism, drew upon both of these themes.
I'm the proud husband of my high school sweetheart, with whom I've been friends since moving to the same Colorado town of 800 residents in third grade, and father of the cutest baby girl ever born.
This is the one-stop shop for all things Ken. While I have a presence on most social media platforms, this is the place with the most up-to-date information about me. I update it regularly with research publications and presentations and share a bit about my teaching philosophy as well.
